I 2006 var det 350 år siden det første lyset ble tent på Lindesnes. Mer enn 200 fyr og tåkeklokker har vist veg langs norskekysten og til havn i denne perioden.

Fyrene har alltid hatt en spesiell tiltrekning på mennesket, og i de siste tiårene har interessen økt. Denne håndboka gir et innblikk i den norske fyrhistorien. Den forklarer fyrnavnenes tilknytning til landskapet og kulturhistorien, og formidler et glimt av historien til hvert enkelt fyr. Boka er rikt illustrert med flotte bilder.

350 years ago the first navigation light was lit at Lindesnes on the southern tip of Norway. Since then, more than 200 lighthouses and fog bells have helped ships find their way to harbours or navigate along the coast of Norway.

The lighthouse has always had a mysterious attraction for people; more so in the past few decades. This reference book reveals part of the history of Norwegian lighthouses. It explains the etymology, setting and cultural history of these lighthouses. There is also a brief history for each of them. The book is richly illustrated.
